Editorial policy
- What our guides are for
- Each guide helps you read one kind of document, understand what it asks of you and find the official place to check. Guides are general information, not legal, financial, medical or tax advice.
- How a guide is prepared
- A guide starts from a question people actually ask. Every statement about a law, fee, deadline, amount or official process is checked against a primary source: government and regulator pages, statutes, official consumer and tenancy bodies, or the vendor's own documentation for technical topics. If a figure cannot be confirmed in an official source, we leave it out and point to where it can be checked. Where rules differ by state, province or territory, the guide says so. Examples are fictional and labelled as samples.
- Sources and dates
- Every guide lists its sources with the date each one was checked, so you can confirm the facts yourself.
- Expert review
- Guides on money, legal and health topics say whether a named expert has reviewed them. Most have not been reviewed yet, and the guide tells you so. We name a reviewer only after a qualified person has actually checked that guide.
- Keeping guides current
- Rules and prices change. We check each guide's sources again at least every six months, and a guide whose facts are overdue for a check stops appearing in search engines until it has been checked.
- Independence
- No company pays to be mentioned in a guide, and guides never call a provider, lender or product the best. Where it fits, a guide explains how EasyToDecode will help with that document, always marked as coming soon.
- Corrections
- If you find a mistake, email us with the page address and what is wrong. We check every report against the official source, correct confirmed errors and update the date on the guide.
